COPYRIGHT

Copyright gives the creator of a piece of art whether it be music, painting, film etc.  to have lawful justification to call it their own, and their work is protected by a law that guarantees them that no one can use it unless permission is given by the creator.

What can you Copyright?
Basically anything that has been produced as the result of
independent intellectual effort, or as the result of a collaborative effort.

This includes stories, scripts, lyrics and other literary works

As the seminar explained, there is no registration system for copyright. once you create something it is yours, and is copyrighted for Life plus 70 years, so however long one lives and then 70 years after one passes away.

Here is the bit that will apply to me equally as much:

If you want to use someone's work within yours, you need to request permission, if its an individual, an email would suffice, but if its a company then you will have to contact the team that is responsible for copyright.

most people would give you permission, but some would request payment or something along those lines.

so after learning the importance of copyright i will feel confortable in my future ventures that i wont stumble across some horrible copyright law.
